What do you use to do criminal background checks?

Hello! I'm researching various vendors who run criminal background checks, and thought I'd ask what other organizations are using. What do you use? Do you like it? Is it user friendly? Is it expensive? What does it cover (state only, federal search, sex offender registry, Medicare fraud, etc)? How quickly do you get results? I'm grateful for any insights you can share (even if it's just, "We use ______").  Thank you in advance!

If you prefer to reach out directly (instead of on this forum) I'm at pmonahan@rideconnection.org, or (503) 528-1738. Thanks again!

    Hi Pam!

I tag on to our HR department for these. They use CICS. I also know they are researching other, less costly options.

We use Verified Volunteers. We like that they have two options for payment; either the volunteer pays, or our agency program pays for the screening. It has saved us thousands of dollars. The screening costs around $21 for the standard criminal locator, and an additional 15-20 for an MVR screening.

We used to use Intellicorp, an on-line background check company.  Results were instant. Cost was $18 and up depending on what information was requested.
