The NOVAA Learning Community 

Volunteer management professionals gathering around relevant topics to both teach and learn from their peers in facilitated conversations. 

The NOVAA Learning Community events are free for NOVAA members  and $10 for non-members.

Learning Community sessions focus on one relevant topic at a time. The sessions start out with a short presentation or panel discussion, followed by Q&A and an open facilitated discussion. All members are welcome to the NOVAA Learning Community, but participants are expected to review any pre-session reading assignments and be prepared for advanced discussions.

Due to COVID-19 and nationwide prevention measures, we will be offering this Learning Community remotely via Zoom. A link will be sent to registered participants in your confirmation email.

De-Escalating Conflic

Brooke White, Director of Training & Clinical Services at William Temple House

This training will review potential issues leading to an escalated event, practical tools to help de-escalate crisis including skills that can be practiced during a crisis, and how to support people before, during, and after an escalated situation. There will be time for ample discussion and for the audience to bring examples of situations they have been involved in as volunteers as well as ask questions of the presenter and other audience members.

Brooke White is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is currently the Director of Training & Clinical Services at William Temple House in Portland, OR. She has worked in residential settings with adults seeking healing from substance use disorder as well as with unhoused youth and youth in the foster care system. She has been a trainer and supervisor for over 10 years and has worked with hundreds of staff to support them in their clinical interventions, always focusing on how to stay client-centered and trauma-informed.

Learning Communities are free for NOVAA Members and just $10 for other guests.
