During the Learning Community this past year "Labor Law Differences" by Nicole Babnick who is a Lawyer and HR professional, Nicole mentioned its not a good idea to hand out gift cards as recognition/appreciation because that is technically taxable income and the giftee "needs" to claim it on their taxes. She advised sticking with swag/food etc.
Now we all know what we "should" be doing is different from what we are all doing but i thought i would share.
Thanks for the reply. We are giving out gift cards to help with gas, clothes and groceries. I'm not sure if that makes a difference?
