Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is looking at purchasing a volunteer management system.  What are you using?  How do you like it?

    Thanks

Hi Darlene- Portland Children's Museum uses Volgistics to manage ~500 volunteer records. It charges a base monthly fee and then you can add a la carte-type features depending on what functionality fits your organization's program needs (ie: how many volunteer records you need to manage, how many managers need to have access to the system, the ability to text volunteers, etc.). I've never used any other system, but feel free to reach out directly (wwelsh@portlandcm.org) if you'd like to talk further about how we use it at the Museum.

We also use Volgistics at Multnomah County Library. We have 800-900 active monthly volunteers and 2,000 annually. Volgistics supports the 20+ locations where we have volunteers plus the staff who need access to the database. We've used it for around 7 years and have been mostly happy with it. If you have specific questions about features, feel free to contact me at lizaj@multcolib.org.

Another system that I've heard good things about is Volunteer Impact: https://www.betterimpact.com/volunteer-software-pricing/ Hopefully another NOVAA member can speak about their experience with it!

I also use Volgistics, at my current job with the Shriners Hospitals for Children (about 160 volunteers), and previously at Transition Projects, an agency  serving adults experiencing homelessness, to manage about 200 volunteers. At Shriners it's handy to use the VicNet feature so that volunteers can log in remotely to sign up for shifts; at Transition Projects, we had the VicTouch kiosks for volunteers to sign in and out for their shifts. Have always been happy with it! Also happy to answer any questions - ecoleman@shrinenet.org.

Volgistics seems to be a popular choice.  Thank you all for the input.  I will be signing up for a 30-day free trial to see how it works.

The Beaverton School District uses Better Impact (aka Volunteer Impact), specifically the Enterprise addition.  I’ve been very happy with the program and their customer support is amazing.  Currently, we have 53 schools and well over 10,000 active volunteers.  Some volunteer only at one school, but a significant number are at multiple locations.

If you are still looking, I would be more than happy to share more information.  Feel free to contact me at Johanna_shrout@beaverton.k12.or.us.

I have been using Volgistics for about 12 years now (since it first came out) and have never used anything else. Here at the Oregon Humane Society we have over 2,000 volunteers that we manage.  I've liked it but there are a lot of things that Volgistics doesn't do that I wish it would.  They are not too good at updating their program and they really need to listen to Volunteer leaders who make suggestions on things they could do to make their program better.  It's a program that really needs some overhauling to better meet the needs of it's users (especially when it comes to reporting).

I've been trying to research some other Volunteer Management software but am just not sure about which one may be a good one to switch to.  It looks like Volunteer (or Better) Impact may be good or possibly VolunteerHub.  It's just so hard to possibly switch when you've always used only one program. I'm afraid to get a new one and find out it doesn't work as well and then also have to take the time to learn that new program.

Hello!  I'm digging up this topic as SMART Reading is considering a new volunteer management system.  We currently use an older version of Raisers Edge for volunteer data.  It looks like the upgrade to the newer version is going to be quite expensive, so we are reviewing our options.

Does anyone have any updates on Volgistics, Better Impact, or VolunteerHub?  Does anyone use anything else?

Also, does anyone have any information on how these systems integrate with donor information?  Or are they pretty much stand-alone for volunteer management and a separate system will be needed to manage donor information?

Thanks for your advice and insights!

    Staci,

My organization (Mount St. Helens Institute, ~300 volunteers in our system) currently uses Better Impact. While there are a few minor annoyances, on the whole I've been very happy with it. We used to use Volgistics, and made the switch about 2 years ago. That was before my time, but I'm told it was missing some important functions we needed. It was a long process to get all of our volunteers up to speed on the new system, but now that they're used to it, it's great. Volunteers especially have appreciated the mobile app (My Impact) that came out for smartphones last spring.

Better Impact does not integrate with our donor management system, and that's been a frustration for our staff, so there's been talk recently of switching to a different system that would do that. It's a LOT of work to switch and retrain everyone, and I'm hesitant that anything that tries to "do it all" often ends up not actually doing the specific things very well... Raiser's Edge has been brought up as an option. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on that.

We purchased Better Impact this year.  At Portland Audubon we manage about 450 volunteers, some on shifts, some drop in, some episodic assignments.  We are very happy w it!
